AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College men's basketball team outscored North Greenville by 18 in the second half for a come-from-behind 57-49 victory Tuesday evening.
The Lions are now 2-3 on the season.
PC was led by
Kole Taylor's 14-point, six-rebound performance. He also added two assists and a pair of steals.
Calvin Johnson and
Najai Moody contributed 12 points apiece. Johnson grabbed six boards while Moody had four.
Quinnton Jackson scored seven points, grabbed six boards and blocked a pair of shots.
Curtis Phillips added five points and four rebounds while
Khalid Johnson had four points and three rebounds.
Jocqua Keaton contributed three points, two boards and two steals.
Trailing 5-4 in the early going, Keaton buried a three-ball off a pass from Jackson for a two-point edge. Moments later, Taylor's two free throws extended the advantage to 10-5. However, the visitors took a 30-20 lead into halftime.
After the break, NGU held a 39-25 lead before the Lions roared back. Moody tipped in a shot to cut the deficit to 12. A three-ball from Moody trimmed the deficit to seven, 39-32. A lay-up by Johnson pulled the home team within five, 40-35.
Johnson made it 42-39 on a jumper but the visitors made it a four-point contest. Phillips buried a three-ball off a pass from Jackson to make it 43-42. Two possessions later, Jackson hit a three-ball, tying the contest at 45-45.
Tied at 49-49, Taylor hit two free throws for a 51-49 edge. Taylor hit a jumper and Jackson buried one before Taylor ended the scoring with two free throws, sealing the eight-point win.
PC scored 15 points off turnovers and tallied 57 points from the bench.
The Lions return to action Thursday when they play at North Greenville at 7 p.m.
