BALDWIN, Ga. – The Paine College women's basketball team lost an 89-62 contest at ABAC Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Lions are now 0-5 on the season.
Leia Brown and
Carlysha Golatt shared team-high honors with 17 points. Brown snagged five boards, had a block and a steal. Golatt tallied four rebounds and a pair of assists.
Da'Mar Wims and
Adia Dormu added 12 and 11 points, respectively. Dormu pulled down seven boards and had five assists to go along with two steals. Wims added six boards and a block. Jaya Dendy chipped in four points and six rebounds while
Kylie Fleet accounted for three assists and a steal.
Down 5-4, Fleet found Dormu for a three-ball at the 5:47 mark. Up 14-9, Brown canned a three-point bucket. Moments later, another pass from Fleet to Golatt resulted in a three-point bucket, giving PC a 20-11 edge.
ABAC took a 39-30 lead at the 1:07 mark of the second quarter, but Wims hit a jumper. Trailing 40-32, Golatt nailed a jumper just before halftime to make it 40-34.
Wims trimmed the deficit to just two, 40-38, at the 9:15 mark of the third frame, but that was as close as the team could get the rest of the way.
For the game, PC hit 21-of-48 from the floor, including eight-of-22 from downtown. The squad earned eight second chance points and notched 17 points off the bench.
The Lady Lions return to action Friday when they host Simmons University of Kentucky at 5:30 p.m.
