Dormu Posts Double-Double Against Claflin

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College women's basketball team lost a 96-49 contest to Claflin Monday afternoon.

The Lady Lions are now 0-10 on the season.

Down 4-2, Leia Brown took a pass from Carlysha Golatt and nailed a three-ball. Adia Dormu converted a jumper after a steal from Amaria Wright for a 7-4 edge. Golatt pushed it to 9-6 on a jumper at the 7:58 mark.

Trailing 17-11, Jala Morgan drilled a shot with 4:00 to play. With the score at 22-13, Golatt connected on a three-point shot and Dormu hit two free throws, trimming the deficit to 22-18. However, Claflin went on a 9-0 spurt to close the half.

In the fourth quarter, Jayla Dendy hit a nice jumper in the lane. Dormu added a shot just inside the paint as well. Just before the final buzzer sounded, Golatt connected on a runner for the final tally.  

Head coach Kisha Lucette's team was led by Dormu's double-double effort of 20 points and 13 rebounds. Golatt added nine points, four rebounds and two assists while Morgan accounted for seven points and two assists to go along with a steal.

Dendy chipped in six points, four rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Brown swatted two shots while Wright had a pair of thefts.

For the game, PC hit 18-of-69 from the floor. The team canned three shots from distance and hit 10 free throws. Lucette's squad pulled down 41 rebounds, including 18 on the offensive glass. The Lady Lions scored 26 points in the paint and netted 13 points off turnovers.

The Lady Lions return to action Tuesday, Dec. 31, when they host Benedict at 2 p.m.
