Leia Brown Nets Game-High 21 Points For Paine

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College women's basketball team lost a 113-64 decision to Benedict Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Lions are now 0-11 on the season.

Down 10-2, Amaria Wright converted a shot in the lane off a pass from Leia Brown. Kylie Fleet found Writ for another bucket at the 6:55 mark. PC made it a two-point game when Jayla Dendy canned a jumper in the paint. A three-ball from Brown gave the home squad an 11-10 edge at the 4:37 mark.

Three free throws by Adia Dormu extended the advantage to 14-10, but the Tigers maintained a 19-14 edge heading into the second quarter.

The Lady Lions pulled within one on a pair of occasions, including on a shot from distance by Brown, making it 22-21. However, Benedict stretched the lead to 14 by halftime on a shot with five seconds to play.

The visitors managed to extend the margin in the second half en route to the victory.

For the game, PC hit 20-of-52 from the floor, including six-of-10 from downtown. The squad buried 18-of-25 from the charity stripe. The Lady Lions grabbed 37 rebounds, dished out 16 assists and totaled 11 steals. The squad also netted 15 second-chance points thanks to 10 offensive rebounds.

Head coach Kisha Lucette's team was led by Brown's game-high 21 points on seven-of-10 shooting. She also dished out five assists and grabbed four rebounds. Dormu accounted for 16 points and nine rebounds in a near double-double effort. Carlysha Golatt tallied 12 points, four boards and two steals. Wright registered five steals. Dendy totaled eight points while Zakarah Powell had two.

The Lady Lions return to action Monday, Jan. 6, when they travel to Toccoa Falls at 5 p.m.
