AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College women's basketball team lost a 65-51 decision to Clinton College Friday evening.
The Lady Lions are now 0-8 on the season.
Head coach
Kisha Lucette's team was led by
Carlysha Golatt's game-high 22 points. She nailed six shots from the floor, including five from downtown.
Adia Dormu and
Leia Brown added nine points apiece.
Jala Morgan contributed seven points while
Kylie Fleet tallied three.
Jayla Dendy had one marker.
Golatt and Brown snagged six boards apiece. Dormu was tremendous on the defensive side of the court, capturing five steals.
For the game, PC hit 14-of-56 from the floor, including six-of-24 from downtown. The team buried 17 shots from the charity stripe. Lucette's team had 31 points from the bench and notched 14 second chance points.
Tied at 2-2, Dormu hit a lay-up. Moments later, Morgan buried a three-ball off a pass from Brown. A basket from Brown extended the margin to 9-2. With six seconds to go in the quarter, Brown hit another shot, giving the Lady Lions a 15-11 edge.
Up 18-17, Morgan drilled a shot from distance. Golatt's two free throws pushed the margin to five, 22-17. With the score at 25-24, Brown hit another free throw for a 26-24 advantage.
The visitors tied the game at 30-30 and ended up taking a 45-34 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Although PC was unable to mount the comeback, Golatt connected on several shots from distance in the second half, including multiple from over 25 feet out.
The Lady Lions return to action Thursday when they host Columbia College at 5:30 p.m.
