DECATUR, Ga. – The Paine College volleyball team defeated Agnes Scott by a 3-1 count Tuesday evening.
The Lady Lions are now 2-2 on the season.
For the match, PC hit .238 and slammed home 56 kills. The squad led 4-1 in aces and notched 72 digs.
Akirah McCrae led the way with a team-best 17 kills.
Najla Betts added 14 kills while
Soleil Johnson amassed a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs.
Makayla Evans notched 22 digs and tallied six kills to go along with three assists.
Kelsey Williams distributed 27 assists and had eight digs while
Jamia Seals distributed 17 assists and had a pair of aces.
Demi Mckeever contributed 11 digs and a match-high four aces.
Defensively,
Kennedy Williams and
Kelsey Williams each had a pair of block assists in the win.
Leading 2-1 in what turned out to be the deciding fourth frame, the back-and-forth affair saw PC trail 23-21 before Johnson slammed home a kill. An error by the home squad knotted the set at 23-23.
Down 24-23, a service error once again tied the stanza. Johnson hammered home a point, but an error tied it at 25-25. Head coach
Kisha Lucette's team held a 26-25 edge but Agnes Scott tallied two straight points. McCrae kept the frame alive with a kill.
Moments later, the score was tied at 29-29. An error by the home team pushed it to 30-29. Another miscue allowed PC to take the 31-29 victory.
The Lady Lions return to action Thursday when they play at Allen.
