COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Paine College volleyball team lost a 3-1 decision at Allen Thursday evening.
The Lady Lions are now 2-3 on the season.
Head coach
Kisha Lucette's team slammed home 42 kills and served up seven aces. The squad posted five total blocks and added 57 digs in the contest.
Najla Betts accounted for a team-high 11 kills while hitting .385.
Kelsey Williams chipped in seven kills while
Soleil Johnson added six.
Akirah McCrae hit .625 and notched five kills in eight attempts without an error.
Makayla Evans,
Jamaya Allen and
Kennedy Williams registered four kills apiece.
Kelsey Williams dished out 16 assists while
Chelsea Brooks distributed 13 assists.
Defensively, Evans totaled a match-high 28 digs. Brooks had 10 digs and served up a match-best three aces in the loss.
In the set PC won, the Lady Lions trailed 9-8 but knotted the score on a kill from Betts. Down 11-10, Johnson and Allen posted back-to-back kills. Allen regained the lead at 15-14 only to see McCrae hammer home a point.
Down 18-16, Brooks found Betts for a point.
Kennedy Williams had back-to-back kills for a one-point edge.
Trailing 22-20, a miscue by the home team made it a one-point set.
Kelsey Williams recorded back-to-back aces for a 23-22 lead. Moments later, Allen posted a kill for a 24-23 advantage.
Tied at 24-24, Johnson and Betts netted back-to-back points for the two-point victory.
The Lady Lions return to action Friday when they host Trinity College of Florida at 11 a.m., and Agnes Scott at 3 p.m.
