PC Falls To Carolina

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Paine College women's basketball team lost an 86-54 decision at Carolina University Monday evening.

The Lady Lions are 1-14 on the season.

Head coach Kisha Lucette's team was led by Amaria Wright's game-high 20 points on seven-of-12 shooting from the floor. She was also six-of-eight from the charity stripe. Wright garnered four steals and snagged four rebounds in 36 minutes of action.

Kyra McCrary tallied 11 markers and six rebounds while Adia Dormu notched a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. She also distributed a team-best four assists. Leia Brown and Jayla Dendy had six and four points, respectively. Brown pulled down four rebounds while Dendy had four boards.

Zakarah Powell chipped in two points and four boards while Daiyah Ruger had a point and a steal.

For the game, PC hit 17-of-55 from the floor, including one-of-five from the three-point stripe. The squad canned 19-of-33 from the charity stripe.

Lucette's team scored 30 points in the paint and tallied 13 points off turnovers. Additionally, the 13 offensive boards led to 11 second-chance points.

PC jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead after a three-point bucket from Brown and a free throw by Dormu just 47 seconds into the game. A jumper by Dormu made it 6-3, but the Bruins answered with five straight points.

Brown netted three consecutive points for a 9-8 lead at the 5:13 mark. The back-and-forth affair saw Tamyria Countryman find Wright on the fast break for a lay-up, giving the visitors 13-12 advantage. However, CU went on a 10-2 run to end the first frame.

Lucette's team continued to play strong, but the team was unable to cut into the deficit the rest of the way.

The Lady Lions return to action Thursday, Jan. 30 at Voorhees. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
