NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. – The Paine College baseball team defeated Philander Smith by scores of 13-1 and 9-4 on Tuesday.
The Lions are now 2-2 on the year.
PC jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first frame and tacked on a run in the third stanza. Leading 3-1 in the fifth, the Lions rattled off eight runs before posting two more in the sixth for the 13-1 win. The squad had 10 hits in the game.
J. Beato, C. Batista and M. Roundtree had two hits apiece. D. Page drove in three while Beato and Roundtree had two RBI each.
V. Lemos, D. Daza and M. Roundtree crossed home twice apiece.
C. Tibabijo worked six frames and notched four strikeouts while O. Yespes tossed the final frame.
Game two saw the Lions take a 4-0 lead through three innings. Up 4-3, PC plated four runs in the fourth before the teams traded runs in the fifth.
Domonique Page,
Jhoel Melone and Jones had two hits apiece. Page posted five RBI while Page and Beato crossed home twice each.
Daza struck out six while throwing a complete game in the win.
The Lions return to action Feb. 19 when they host Morehouse for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
