AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College baseball team took the series from Bob Jones over the weekend, winning two of the three games.
The Lions won the first contest 9-1 and the series finale 6-1. PC dropped the middle game by an 11-10 count.
The Lions are now 7-3 on the season.
Game one saw the visitors take a 1-0 lead, but PC plated four runs in the bottom of the inning. Tied at 1-1, Mason Roundtree blasted a three-run home run.
Jhoel Melone crushed a solo blast in the third, extending the advantage to 5-1. The Lions were not challenged and the home squad tacked on four more runs to cut the game away.
Juery Beato and
Camillo Martinez had three hits apiece while Roundtree drove in three and scored three times. Melone crossed home twice as did
Cristian Bastista.
Christian Tibabijo went the distance for the win, striking out five.
The back-and-forth game two saw the Bruins take a 7-3 lead in the fourth. Down 10-6, PC plated two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth. However, Bob Jones pushed across the winning run in the seventh inning. During the game, Melone was outstanding. He had a home run, a double and a single. He totaled six RBI.
Dominique Page scored three times.
Vladimir Lemos tallied two hits and two runs.
Omar Yespes got the start.
Fabio Warff and
Emmanuel Martinez combined to throw the final 3.1 innings.
PC jumped out to a 2-0 lead through the third inning of game three. Leading 2-1, the Lions scored a run in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Melone led the team with three hits and two RBI. Page had two hits and scored three times.
Rayvion Alexander registered a solo home run in the victory.
Denny Daza went the distance and had four strikeouts in the complete-game win.
The Lions return to action Tuesday, March 11 when they play at Clark Atlanta at 12 p.m.
