Lions Split At Morehouse

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Paine College baseball team split a pair of games at Morehouse, falling 13-12 before snagging a 16-19 victory in the nightcap.

The Lions are now 8-4 on the season.

PC fell behind 4-0 before recording a 10-run fourth inning. A bases loaded walk drove in Denny Daza. Cristian Bastista singled home Vladimir Lemos. Dominique Page and Lemos scored on walks, tying the game at 4-4.

Camillo Martinez drove in two on a single to center field before Rayvion Alexander lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, pushing the margin to 8-4. Daza doubled home Alexander before scoring on a groundout to make it 10-4.

The Tigers took an 11-10 lead in the fifth, but Melone tied the game on a single that plated Page. However, Morehouse won the game on a two-run shot in the seventh.

For the game, Daza led the way with three hits. Bastista and Melone had two hits apiece. Melone, Martinez and Alexander each drove in two while Daza and Page crossed home twice each.

Daza took the loss on the mound, striking out one in relief.

Game two saw PC jump out to an 11-0 lead and never look back. Up 11-1, the Lions pushed the margin to 12-1 with a run in the fourth.

Morehouse plated three in the fifth, but PC tacked on two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh for a 16-4 lead. The Tigers scored five runs in the seventh, but it was not enough.

Melone and Alexander each homered in the second while Juery Beato crushed a round-tripper in the third. Joe Ramsey launched a three-run blast in the sixth. Page also notched a triple on the day.

Beato led the way with three hits and five RBI to go along with three runs scored. Ramsey had three RBI while Alexander, Martienz and Melone had two each. Mason Roundtree scored three times. Bastista, Martinez and Melone all crossed home twice.  

The Lions return to action Sunday when they host Morris for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
