AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College baseball team swept Morris College on Sunday by scores of 8-3 and 9-3.
The Lions are now 10-4 on the season.
PC jumped on top with two runs in the first. Leading 2-1 in the third, the Lions plated two more runs in the bottom of the inning.
Up 4-3 in the fifth, PC pushed across four runs, securing the 8-3 victory.
In the first,
Cristian Bastista singled home
Vladimir Lemos. Mason Roundtree knocked in Joe Ramsey to make it 2-0. Bastista crushed a two-run home run in the third for a 4-1 advantage.
Leading by a run in the fifth, Lemos crossed home on a wild pitch. A walk allowed
Dominique Page to cross home. Juery Beato singled in Ramsey and Bastista for the final two runs of the game.
Bastista led the way with a two-hit, three-RBI, two-run performance. Beato and Roundtree also drove in two each while Lemos scored three runs. Ramsey crossed home twice.
Christian Tibabijo worked four innings to get the win. He had three strikeouts.
Fabio Warff worked three innings of relief and had a strikeout.
Trailing 1-0 in the second inning of game two, Melone tied the game on a solo round-tripper. Roundtree knocked in Bastista for a 2-1 edge. Leading 3-1, Melone belted a three-run shot for a 6-1 advantage. When Bastista crossed home, the Lions led by six.
Melone posted a sacrifice fly in the fourth for an 8-2 edge before Jones finished the scoring on a wild pitch in the sixth.
Melone led the way with two hits and five RBI to go along with two runs scored.
Denny Daza picked up the complete-game win with eight strikeouts.
The Lions return to action Tuesday when they travel to Stillman for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
