WILBERFORCE, Ohio (Men's Basketball) – The Paine College men's basketball continued their three game road trip against Central State University. The Lions fought hard and defeated the Marauders, 67-65.
With the win, Paine improves to 2-7, overall, and 1-1 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Central State moves to 0-4, overall, and 0-2 in conference play.
The Lions were led by
Denzel Dillingham with 27 points and Donald Quarles with a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Patrick Petty kept the table set for Paine with four assists.
Arnis Libazs was a presence in the paint as he recorded four blocks. Dillingham had a nose for the ball as he came up with five steals.
Collectively, Paine finished the game with 46 rebounds, 10 assists, nine steals, and four blocks. The team was 34.5 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from the arc, and 64.9 percent from the free throw line.
Tre' Edwards was the point leader for the Marauders with 15. Edwards was followed by Hosie Smith, Jr. with 13 points. The leading rebounder was Tom Johnson with 11 boards. Sterling Gilmore was the assist leader with four and led the team in steals with three.
As a team, Central State closed out the night with 45 rebounds, 12 assists, 11 steals, and four blocks. The team was 39.4 percent from the field, 16.7 percent from three point range, and 52.4 percent from the stripe.
The Lions face the Dragons of Lane College on Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. to close out the three game road trip.
