AUGUSTA, Ga. (Men's Basketball) – The Paine College Lions basketball team hosted the Benedict College Tigers on Saturday afternoon. The game also served as a farewell for Lions seniors. The Lions were able to hold on and defeat the Tigers, 82-74.
The Lions move to 6-20, overall, and 2-14 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Benedict moves to 16-11, overall, and 11-7 in league play.
Kaderious Compton led the way for Paine in scoring with a career-high 33 points. Compton was followed by senior
Arnis Libazs with double-double 13 points and 10 rebounds. Not to be outdone, senior
Don Quarles posted a double-double of his own with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Senior
Arnold Okechukwu made his presence felt in the paint with three blocks. The assist leader for the Lions was
Eric Jones with four.
The Lions finished the game with 57 rebounds, 15 assists, five blocks and four steals. The team was 41.7 percent from the field, 40 percent from three point range, and 53.7 percent from the free throw line.
The Tigers were led by Tyoun Shuford with 16 points. Alandrius Riler led the team in rebounding with four boards. Quayshaun Hawkins had a nose for the ball with three steals.
Benedict finished the night with 27 rebounds, 10 assists, 13 steals, and four blocks. The team was 42.5 percent from the field, 23.1 percent from the arc, and 75 percent from the stripe.
Paine returns to action in the HEAL Complex for their last home game of the season against on Monday, Feb. 22 Morehouse at 7 p.m.
