Lions Gear Up to Face Augusta University

AUGUSTA, Ga. (Men's& Women's Basketball ) – The Paine College men's and women's basketball teams are in search of their first win of the 2015-26 season as they travel to Augusta University in their fifth non-conference match up on Saturday, Nov. 21 at the Christenberry Fieldhouse.

The women's game will tip off at 5:30 p.m. and men's game will follow at 7:30 p.m.

The series between the teams with their respective head coaches at the helm has Augusta University, 5-0, over Paine. Coach Willie Adams and the Lady Lions will try to bounce back from a close loss to Shaw University on Wednesday night in the HEAL Complex, 85-79. The scoring trifecta of Ashley Watts (16.8 points per game), Janisha Wilkerson (14.3 ppg), and Tannasia Rhodes (10.0 ppg) has proven to be effective in the first four games of the season with each of them averaging in the double digits. Rhodes and Delisia Sharpe have been hitting the boards hard for Paine, leading the team with averages of 5 rebounds per game and 3.8 rebounds per game, respectively.

Lady Lions will have to shut down Kariel Hutt for the Jags. In three game for Augusta University, Hutt is averaging 14.3 ppg, 15.3 rpg, and has recorded 10 blocks and seven steals. Breanna O'Conner is also a scorer for the Jaguars as she averages 13 ppg. Kayla Lovett keeps the table set for Augusta as the assist leaders for the team, recording 10 in their three games.

Coach Chase Campbell and the Lions will try to snap the Jaguars 11 game win streak in the series.The Paine men look to shore up their defense as they face the Jags. Denzel Dillingham has been a scoring machine posting back to back double digit games in points. In the team's most recent match up with the University of South Carolina-Aiken, Dillingham recorded 30 points and three rebounds. Arnis Libazs has been the key role player for the Lions in the team's early season outings averaging 13.7 points and 5.7 rebounds. The rebound machine for Paine has been Donald Quarles who has recorded 22 rebounds this season, averaging 7.3 a game.

The Lions need to cage Keshun Sherrill and Tommy Williams. Sherrill scored 18 points and Williams scored 16 points in Augusta's game against Claflin University. Keith Crump is the leading rebounder for the Jaguars with seven in their first game of the season against the Panthers.

The men's game will be televised on WJBF News Channel 6 around the area.
