Lions Fall on the Road to Kentucky Wesleyan, 93-78

OWENSBORO, Ky. (Men's basketball) – The Paine College Lions traveled to Owensboro, Ky. to face off against Kentucky Wesleyan College on Wednesday night. The Lions came up short and were defeated by the Panthers, 93-78.

With the loss, Paine drops to 0-6 for the season and Kentucky Wesleyan moves to 4-1.

Throughout the first half, the Lions committed 12 turnovers that the Panthers turned into 16 points. Miscues and dysfunction prohibited Paine from finding its rhythm and the team headed to the locker room trailing, 48-35.

The Lions rallied to score in the second half and came out blazing. Kentucky Wesleyan quickly doused the fire and was able to contain Paine's high scoring offense. Leading Lions scorer, Denzel Dillingham, was silenced scoring only five points in the half fouled out of the game with 5:31 left.

Arnis Libazs led the way for Paine with 18 points. He was followed by Raheim Connelly with 15 points. Reginal Shuford shined for the Lions with seven boards and six assists on the night.

As a team, Paine finished the game with 29 rebounds, 15 assists, five steals and one block. The team was 50.9 percent from the field, 41.2 percent from the arc, and 68 percent from the free throw line.

The Panthers were led by Jordan Jacks with 23 points. He was followed by C.J. Blackwell with 16 points, and Ken-Jah Bosley with 13 points. Jacks was also the leading rebounder with 11 boards. Tamron Manning kept the table set with seven assists. Jeremaine Morgan recorded two blocks.

Collectively, Kentucky Wesleyan finished the game with 31 rebounds, 25 assists, 11 steals, and two blocks. The team was 58.3 percent from the field, 35.7 percent from three point range, and 72 percent from the free throw line.

The Lions will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 8 p.m. when they square off in the HEAL Complex against the University of North Georgia.
