AUGUSTA, Ga. (Men's basketball) – Coach
Chase Campbell and the Paine College men hosted the University of North Georgia in the HEAL Complex on Saturday night and were able to pick up the win, 93-75.
The win brings the Lions record to 1-6 and drops the Nighthawks to 2-5.
Paine was able to get the jump on North Georgia and never let up. The Lions defended the ball well and were able to get
Denzel Dillingham into a rhythm. Paine's offense overwhelmed the Nighthawks in the first half with Dillingham scoring 27 in the first half. The Lions great defensive play allowed them to score 31 points off of turnovers alone.
Dillingham lead the way for Paine with 40 points and seven rebounds. This is the sixth game that he has scored in the double digits. He was followed by
Arnis Libazs with 14 points and six rebounds.
Raheim Connelly was generous for the Lions with four assists. Dillingham and
Reginal Shuford each had three assists. Libazs and
Arnold Okechukwu recorded a block apiece for the night.
As a team, Paine finished the game with 29 rebounds, 13 assists, 10 steals and two blocks. The team was 52.8 percent from the field, 50 percent from three point range, and 67.9 percent from the stripe.
North Georgia was led by Corey Green with 15 points, T.J. Williams with 12, and Ebo Smith with 12. Green and Juan Rivas recorded six rebounds each. The table was set for the Nighthawks by Sean Green with six assists. Rivas was the leading blocker with two in the game.
Collectively, North Georgia finished the night with 30 rebounds, 14 assists, six steals, and four blocks. The team was 44.3 percent from the field, 32 percent from the arc, and 86.7 percent from the free throw line.
The Lions return to action on Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. as they travel to Frankfort, Ky. to face Kentucky State in their first conference game.
