The Lions Get Ready for Marauders

WILBERFORCE, Ohio (Men's and Women's basketball) – The Paine College men's and women's basketball teams head to Wilberforce, Ohio for their second Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match up against Central State University on Saturday. The Lady Lions will play at 1 p.m. and the Lions will tip off at 3 p.m.

The Paine women (1-6, 0-1 SIAC) are coming off a close loss to Kentucky State on Thursday night, 79-71.  The Lady Marauders (2-4, 0-1 SIAC) suffered a loss to Benedict College on Thursday, 78-60.

Ashley Watts and Janesha Wilkerson continue to shine for the Lady Lions in scoring. Watts is the scoring leader with an average of 18.3 per game and Wilkerson is right behind her with 17.4 per game. Both come in to Saturday's game after double digit performances against the Thorobrettes. Watts finished with 25 points and Wilkerson with 18. On the boards, Delisia Sharpe continues her dominance with an average of 5.9 rebounds per game. In the team's last outing, Sharpe recorded nine boards against Kentucky State. Watts is the initiator for the Lady Lions with 6.9 assists per game. She recorded six assists on Thursday night.

The Paine women are currently shooting 41 percent from the field, 23.6 percent from the arc, and 67.4 percent from the stripe.

To come away from Central State with a win, the Lady Lions will have to contain Jordyn Bond and Courtney Perry. Bond and Perry leads the Lady Marauders in scoring and rebound. Bond is first in scoring with an average of 15.5 points per game while Perry is second with 12.7 ppg. In rebounds, Perry is first with an average of 8.7 rpg and Bond is second with 7.5 rpg. Ghameerah McCullough is the assist leader for Central State with 2.8 per game.

This season, the Lady Marauders are shooting 37.9 percent from the field, 28.7 percent from three point range, and 58.6 percent from the free throw line.
The Paine men (1-7, 0-1 SIAC) want to bounce back from Thursday night loss to the Thorobreds, 94-88. Central State (0-3, 0-1 SIAC) are coming off a loss to Benedict College on Thursday, 81-79.

Denzel Dillingham is still the leading scorer for Paine averaging 27.6 points per game. Arnis Libazs is second with 17.1 points per game. Dillingham recorded his seventh double digit performance with 25 points and Libazs scored 20 points over Kentucky State. In the rebounding department, Donald Quarles has been outstanding this season recording 61 rebounds and averaging 7.6 per game. Quarles grabbed 12 boards on Thursday night against Kentucky State and it was his third game with double digit rebounds.

The Lions are currently shooting 49.9 percent from the field, 40.2 percent from the arc, and 72.2 percent from the free throw line.

The Lions must shut down Tom Johnson and Tre' Edwards as they are the leading scorers for the Marauders. Johnson leads the team with 11.7 points per game and Edwards is second with 10.7 points per game. In the paint, Central State has three big men doing their board work. Jeremy Brown leads the way with nine rebounds per game and Hosie Smith, Jr. is second with six rebounds per game. Rounding the group out in third is Robert Konteh averaging 5.3 rebounds per game. Sterling Gilmore is the assist leader with 3.7 assists per game.

Central State is shooting 36.5 percent from the field, 25.9 percent from the arc, and 62.3 percent from the strip.
