Box Score WEST POINT, Ga. – The Paine College men's basketball team picked up a 83-75 victory at Point University Saturday afternoon.
The Lions are now 1-2 on the season.
Quinnton Jackson led the way with 29 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the floor.
Kole Taylor erupted for 17 points on seven-of-13 shooting, including three-of-nine from downtown.
Khalid Johnson added 14 points while
Calvin Johnson totaled 16 points in the win.
Curtis Phillips chipped in two points while
Jasper Clements added three and Jocqua Keeton had two points.
For the game, Paine hit 33-of-63 from the floor, including 12-of-41 from downtown. The Lions dished out 11 assists in the win.
Johnson hit back-to-back three-point buckets to start the scoring. A pair of free throws from Johnson pushed the margin to eight, 10-2. Tied at 20-20, Taylor nailed a shot from deep and Phillips converted a lay-up.
Leading 28-27, Jackson hit back-to-back lay-ups. After a jumper by Johnson, Jackson drilled a shot from downtown off a pass from Johnson for a 37-27 edge. Up 44-38, Phillips buried a three-point shot. Leading 47-40, Jackson connected on two free throws and Clements made a three-ball en route to a 52-42 edge at halftime.
Five minutes into the second half, Taylor's three-point shot pushed the score to 64-49. With the score 68-56 in favor of PC, Johnson hit a jumper. Jackson nailed a couple of inside shots to make it 74-58 with 4:50 to go. Taylor's three-point shot at the 3:53 mark gave the visitors a 19-point lead to put the game away.
The Lions return to action Tuesday when they play at Brewton-Parker at 7 p.m.
