AUGUSTA, Ga. (Men's Basketball) – A close game between the Paine College Lions and the Stillman College Tigers revealed the Lion to be the better, 71-68.
The win improves Paine's overall record to 11-3 and their Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference record to 7-0. The win also extends the team's current streak to 10. Stillman moves to 8-6 for the season and 4-3 in league play.
The leading scorer for the Lions was
Denzel Dillingham with 20 points for the night. Not to be outdone,
Arnis Libazs showed his prowess by recording a double-double for the night of 17 points and 10 rebounds. Libazs also led the team in blocks with three. Petty led the team in assists with four. Petty, Dillingham, Nathan Powell, and
Don Quarles each had a steal for the night.
As a team, Paine finished the game with 35 rebounds, 10 assists, six blocks, and five steals. The Lions were 43.1 percent from the field, 20 percent from the arc, and 80.6 percent from the free throw line.
Rodnerius Lewis and Jamon Jackson-Williams led the Tigers with 14 points. Jackson-Wilson was the rebound leader with eight for the night. Lewis finished the game with three assists. Jackson-Wilson, Markeith Madison, Dementriel Lavender, and Matrell Smith each accounted for one block. William Green led the team in steals with four.
Stillman finished the game with 26 rebounds, 12 steals, six assists, and four blocks. The team was 44.3 percent from the field, 36.4 percent from the arc, and 58.8 percent from the free throw line.
The Lions will be in action again on Jan. 22 against Fort Valley State at 7:30 p.m. in the HEAL Complex.
