AUGUSTA, Ga. (Men's Basketball) – The Paine College men's basketball earned their 11th straight win of the season as they defeated Fort Valley State, 103-72.
This game is also the eighth straight conference win.
The Lions rise to 12-3 overall for the season and 8-0 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Fort Valley drops to 8-6 overall and 4-3 in league play.
Denzel Dillingham had the hottest hand of the night with 23 points.
Alfonso Davis followed him with 21 points.
Patrick Petty kept the table set for the Lions as he accumulated 12 assists.
Takija Knight was the leading rebounder for Paine with six and the leading blocker with three. Davis, Dillingham, and Nathan Powell each finished the night with three steals.
As a team, the Lions finished the game with 31 rebounds, 21 assists, 16 steals, and seven blocks. Paine was 67.2 percent from the field, 50 percent from the arc, and 64 percent from the free throw line.
Fort Valley was lead by Tyrone Brinson with 28 points. Montreal Holley was the leading rebounder accounting for six rebounds. Desmond Lofland had the most assists for the Wildcats with six. Kenneth Harper accounted for the lone block of the night for Fort Valley. Brinson, Lofland, Harper, and Eugene Thomas each had one steal for the game.
The Wildcats finished the night with 18 rebounds, 10 assists, four steals and one block. As a team, Fort Valley was 37.3 percent from the field, 45 percent from the arc, and 80.6 percent from the free throw line.
The game also saw two ejections after a heated play. Ralph Wilson of Fort Valley was ejected after committing a flagrant foul on Paine's
Kaderious Compton. The Lions'
Don Quarles, Jr. was ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Paine returns to the hardwood on Saturday against Albany State at 3:00 p.m. in the HEAL Complex for "Lion Pride" Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night.
