Lion Hang on to Defeat Yellowjackets, 86-81

AUGUSTA, Ga. (Men's Basketball) – Denzel Dillingham sealed the Homecoming victory for the Paine College men's basketball team against Allen University with two free throws at the :02 left in the game, 86-81.
 
The victory marked the fifth straight victory since the three game skid for the Lions. Paine's overall record is 19-5 while the Yellowjackets drop to 7-17.
 
The Lions and Allen traded baskets for much of the night. Paine led the score six times and tied it six times. The Lions scored 32 points in the paint compared to the Yellowjackets 28 points. However, Allen was able to capitalize on turnovers and gain 26 points compared to Paine's nine points on turnovers.
 
Denzel Dillingham led Paine with 33 points. Arnis Libazs followed him with a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds. Don Quarles followed Libazs in assists with nine. Patrick Petty was the assist leader for the team with four. Quarles was also led the team in steals with two.
 
As a team, the Lions finished the night with 35 rebounds, 16 assists, four blocks and four steals. The team was 53.1 percent from the field, 40 percent from the arc, and 70 percent from the free throw line.
 
Derrick McCord led the Yellowjackets with 20 points. Emaray Johnson followed him with 14 points, four steals and accounted for the team's lone block of the night. The leading rebounder for Allen was William McDuffie with five. William McGuire led the team in assists with five.
 
Collectively, Allen finished the game with 26 rebounds, 17 assists, seven steals, and one block. The team was 43.5 percent from the field, 45 percent from the arc, and 85.7 percent from the free throw line.
 
Paine returns to action on Monday as they travel to face Claflin University at 7:30 p.m.
