FORT VALLEY, Ga. (Men's basketball) – The Paine College men's basketball team claimed their second victory in a row over Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent, Fort Valley State, on the road, 81-75.
With the win, the Lions move to 16-5, overall and 12-2 in conference play. The Wildcats fall to 2-19 overall and 2-12 in league play.
Once again,
Denzel Dillingham was the leading scorer for Paine with 19 points. He was followed by
Arnis Libazs with 16 points.
Don Quarles led the team in rebounds with eight. The table was set for the Lions by Nathan Powell who accumulated five assists.
Takija Knight was a force in the paint for Paine with five blocks for the night. Quarles and
Alfonso Davis had the fastest hands of the night with two steal apiece.
As a team, Paine finished the game with 44 rebounds, 15 assists, nine blocks, and seven steals. The team was 45 percent from the field, 47.1 percent from the arc, and 54.3 percent from the free throw line.
Fort Valley was led by Derrick Spear with 19 points. Spear was followed by Tyrone Brinson with 15 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Desmond Lofland was the team's leader in assists with five. De'Mario Black had the fastest hand for the Wildcats with three steals.
Collectively, Fort Valley finished the night with 42 rebounds, 16 assists, nine steals, and three blocks. The team was 42.6 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from the arc, and 59.3 percent from the free throw line.
The Lions return to action on Monday as they travel to face Albany State at 7:30 p.m.
