SAVANNAH, Ga. (Women's/Men's Track & Field) – The Paine College men's and women's track & field team headed to Savannah State University to compete in the Savannah Eye Opener Meet on Saturday.
The Lady Lions did well in each event that athletes competed in with several placing in the top 10 of their respective event.
In the field events, McAllister shined for the Lady Lions placing in the top five of the women's high jump, long jump, and triple jump. In the high jump, she placed second with a height of 1.52 meters. Batton (Albany St.) finished in first place with a height of 1.57 meters. For the long jump, McAllister place second with a distance of 5.16 meters. The event was taken by Miara Elmore of Savannah State with a distance of 7.96 meters. McAllister placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 10.68 meters. Batton (Albany St.) claimed the event with a distance of 11.29 meters.
In the women's 100 meter dash finals,
Jhane Davis came in 11th place with a time of 13.08 and Shaun Aycock came in 13th with a time of 13.32. Asia Stinson of Savannah State placed first with a time of 12.34. Davis was the lone Lady Lion in the women's 200 meter dash and placed 13th with a time of 28.63. Yasmine Reynolds of Albany State took the event with a time of 25.61.
For the women's 400 meter dash final, Paine had two athletes place in the top 10.
Diamond Walker came in seventh place with a time of 1:02.35 and
Jakayla Richmond placed ninth with a time of 1:02.88. The winner of the event was Reynolds (Albany St.) with a time of 58.19.
In the women's 800 meter run final, three Lady Lions finished in the top 20.
Tashauna Smith finished in seventh place with a time of 2:31.04,
Ashley Stephens finished 15th with a time of 2:40.38, and
Martina Nyenkan came in 18th place with a time of 2:44.50. Lia Sewell of Mercer University placed first with time of 2:22.85.
Diamond Walker placed eighth in the women's 1500 meter run final with a time of 5:34.55.
Elizabeth Reza finished in 15th place with a time of 6:00.30. The winner of the event was Betsy Douglas of the University of South Carolina-Beaufort with a time of 4:50.44.
Reza was the lone Paine woman to compete in the women's 5000 meter run final. She placed 15th with a time of 23:52.75. Kami Orrender of Mercer University won the event with a time of 18:06.04.
For the women's 100 meter hurdles, Tavica Redding came in second with a time of 16.08. The winner of the event was Philicia Batton of Albany State with a time of 15.55.
In the women's 4x100 meter relay, Paine (Aycock, Smith, Redding, Stephens, Briana Cook,
Bria McAllister) finished in second place with a time of 49.82. Savannah State took the event with a time of 47.89.
Paine women's 4x400 meter relay team (Stephens, McAllister, Smith,
Ashandria Henry) placed second with a time of 4:12.51. The winner of the event was Claflin University whose team finished with a time of 4:07.10.
Henry competed in and claimed the women's discus throw with a throw of 32.81 meters. Henry also competed for Paine in the women's shot put and placed third with a throwing distance of 10.67 meters. Brittianni Phillips of Albany State took the event with a distance of 11.55 meters.
In the women's javelin throw, Paine was represented by Redding and she placed seventh with a throw of 20.52 meters. The event was won by Chante Durant of Claflin with a throw of 34.23 meters.
On the men's side of things, Paine had several athletes place in the top five for their respective events.
In the men's 100 meter dash,
Jamar Thornton place claimed the event with a time of 11.11.
Mykevius Johnson placed third with a time of 11.34.
Johnson won the men's 200 meter dash for Paine with a time of 22.85. Richard Bell placed fourth for the Lions with a time of 23.81.
For the men's 400 meter dash, Thornton placed ninth with a time of 53.43. Bell finished the event in 14th place with a time of 56.31 and Jaleel Fillmore came in 16th place with a time of 56.61.
In the men's 800 meter run,
Kelson Vandenburg was the lone Lion to compete and he placed sixth with a time of 2:04.68.
Jalen Tyson participated in the men's 110 meter hurdles and place fifth with a time of 16.20.
The Paine men's 4x100 meter relay team (Bell, Fillmore, Johnson, Tyson, Harry Davis, Daniel Wohlgemuth) finished the event in fourth place with a time of 43.65. Savannah State won the event with a time of 41.66.
In the men's 4x400 meter relay, Paine (Thornton, Tyson, Marvin Sims, John Hyer, Diamante Johnson) finished the race in third place with a time of 3:36.74. The event was won by Savannah State with a time of 3:18.40
Tyson competed for Paine in the men's triple jump and place third with a distance of 13.90 meters. The event was won by Cervantes Jackson of Albany State with a distance of 14.63 meters.
Jaylen Reid claimed fourth place with a throw of 10.77 meters in the men's shot put event. Montay Johnson came in ninth place with a throw of 8.74 meters. Connor Christian of Savannah State won the event with a throw of 14.10 meters.
The final event for the Lions was the men's javelin throw and Montay Johnson placed tenth with a distance of 24.60 meters. Reid came in 12th place with a throw of 20.19 meters. Jackson (Albany St.) won the event with a throw of 42.07 meters.
The Lions will return to action on Feb. 27 when they travel back to Savannah, Ga. to compete in the Savannah Relays.
