AUGUSTA, Ga. (Track & Field) -- The Paine College Lions track & field team hosted its 2nd Annual Paine College Lions Invitational on Saturday at Lucy C. Laney High School Memorial Stadium. The Lions competed against Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents such as Albany State University, Fort Valley State University, and Claflin University. Other schools that participated in the meet were Augusta University and Edward Waters College.

Albany State's men placed first as a team with a point total of 233. Paine's men came in third place with 93.

The Lady Lions came in second place with a point total of 141.5. Albany State's women took the day with a total of 213.5.

For the men's side, there were several runners who placed in the top 10 of their events. Freshman Mykevious Johnson placed third in the men's 100m dash with a time of 11.04. Richard Bell came in seventh place with a time of 11.20.

Bell also competed in the men's 200m dash and came in second place with a time of 22.74.

Kelson Vandenburg took fifth place in the men's 800m dash with a time of 2:04.89. Claflin's Oduo Hazel won the event with a time of 1:57.23.

In the men's 110m hurdles, the Lions had two runners place in the top five. Jaleel Filmore placed fourth with a time of 16.04 and Jalen Tyson placed fifth with a time of 16.22.

Filmore also competed in the men's 400m hurdles and placed third with a time of 58.30. Kamil Jones of Albany State won the event with a time of 57.21.

Tyson was the lone high jumper for Paine and tied for fourth place with a jump of 6'-2". He also competed in the long jump and took fourth place with a distance of 21'-6". Paine's Marvin Sims placed tenth in the high jump with a distance of 19'-9". Mikevion Hall of Edward Waters took the event with a distance of 24' – 9.5"

In the men's triple jump, the Lions had to jumpers finish within the top five. Sims finished in second place with a jump of 46' – 1" and Tyson came in third place with a jump of 43' – 10".

Montay Johnson placed tenth in the men's shot put with a throw of 9.61m. Antravious Parks of Albany State took the event with a throw of 13.42m.

Jaylen Reid was the only Paine man competing in the men's discus. He threw for a distance of 34.19m. Fedner Homme won the event with a throw of 41.53m.

In the men's javelin, Vandenburg placed seventh with a throw of 34.84m and Montay Johnson placed tenth with a throw of 28.36m.

On the women's side of things, in the women's 100m dash, Paine had two women finish in the top 15.
Jhane Davis finished in seventh place with a time of 12.95 and
Kita Aycock finished with time of 13.37. Brenay Brown of Claflin won the event with a time of 12.34.

In the women's 200m dash, the Lady Lions had four runners place in the top 15.
Tashauna Smith placed third with a time of 25.96.
Ashley Stephens came in eighth place with a time of 26.91.
Martina Nyenkan placed tenth with a time of 27.06 and Aycock placed 14th with a time of 28.37. Albany State's Ebone Cobb took the event with a time of 25.78.

For the women's 400m run, Paine had three athletes place in the top ten. Smith placed second in the women's 400m run with a time of 58.62. Nyenkan placed fourth with a time of 59.71, while Stephens placed seventh with a time of 1:02.27.

In the middle and long distance,
Diamond Walker and
Elizabeth Reza rose to the top and placing high in each event they competed in. Walker placed second in the women's 800m run with a time of 2:25.46.
Elizabeth Reza came in tenth place with a time of 2:43.40. Carrie Byrd of Claflin won the event with a time of 2:16.15.

Walker also claimed the women's 1500m run for the Lady Lions with a time of 5:23.67.

Reza placed second in the women's 3000m run with a time of 13:27.81. She also placed second in the women's 5000m run with a time of 24:15.60.

In the women's 100m hurdles, Tavica Redding came in third place with a time of 15.78. Makayla Jackson of Claflin won the event with a time of 15.07.

Paine's women's 4x100m relay team (Kayla Lewis, Mikalia Wallace, Deja Sims-Dean, Davis) placed third with a time of 48.67. Albany State's team (Deja Goodine, Irrion Conaler, Yasmine Reynolds, Cobb) took the event with a time of 47.56.

In the women's 4x400m relay, Paine's team (Delisia Sharpe, Janisha Wilkerson, Caprice Lockett, Totyanna Corbitt) won the event with a time of 3:57.09.

Bria McAllister continued to shine for the Lady Lions in the women's high jump and came in third place with a height of 5'-0". Redding placed eight with a height of 4'-6".

In the women's long jump, McAllister placed second with a distance of 5.25m.

Paine's women excelled in the women's triple jump as Smith and McAllister claimed first and second place, respectively. Smith's jump was 12.00m and McAllister's was 11.39m. Redding came in sixth place with a jump of 11.02m.

In the women's shot put, Elmore placed 15th with a throw of 7.60m. Charity Grimes of Albany State took the event with a throw of 11.50m. For the women's discus, Elmore placed seventh with a throw of 24.08m.

In the women's javelin, Elmore placed tenth with a throw of 21.24m and Redding came in 13th with a throw of 18.89m. Edward Waters' Larissa Pereira won the event with a throw of 31.70m.
