SAVANNAH, Ga. (Men's and Women Track & Field) -- The Paine College Lions men's and women track & field teams took to the lanes at Savannah State on Thursday.
For the Lady Lions, there were several athletes who placed in the top 10 and top 15 of their individual events.
In the women's 100m dash,
Tashauna Smith placed seventh with a time of 12.57 and Jhane' Davis place 15th with a time of 12.96. Shenel Crooke of Morgan State University took first place with a time of 11.83.
Ashley Stephens competed for Paine in the women's 200m dash. She came away with 11th place and a time of 26.48. Smith also ran in the event and finished with a time of 26.64 for 14th place. The event was won by Crooke (Morgan State) with a time of 24.48.
In the women's 400m dash, the Lady Lion's
Martina Nyenkan placed eighth with a time of 1:00.78. Stephens came in 12th place with a time of 1:02.92. Melissa Caddle-Hope of Coppin State University placed first with a time of 56.22.
Diamond Walker was the lone Paine woman competing in the women's 1500m run. Walker placed fourth with a time of 5:29.53. The event was won by QuanDra Shanks of Florida A&M University with a time of 4:57.51.
In the women's 4x100m relay, the Lady Lions (Smith, Stephens, Nyenkan, Davis, Shaun Aycock) came in fifth place with a time of 49.02. Claflin University won the event with a time of 46.98.
Paine (Smith, Stephens, Nyenkan, Aycock, Walker) won the women's 4x400m relay with a time of 4:04.06.
Bria McAllister tied for first place with Twandalette Cotton of Georgia Southern University in the women's high jump with a height of 1.52m.
In the women's long jump, Smith placed third with a jump of 5.30m and McAllister placed 10th with 4.93m. The event was won by Zuwena Carr of Brewton-Parker College with a jump of 5.54m.
Smith and McAllister competed in the women's triple jump. Smith placed third with a jump of 11.86m and McAllister placed fifth with a jump of 11.08m. Ashley Ivey of Florida A&M took the event with a jump of 12.31m.
On the men's side of things, the Paine men placed in the top 10 and top 15 in most of their events.
In the men's 400m run,
Kelson Vandenburg placed 12th with a time of 2:16.76. The event was won by Michael James of Coppin State University with a time of 1:53.17.
Vandenburg also placed 12th in the men's 1500m run with a time of 4:56.97. Carlos Oliver of Francis Marion University took the event with a time of 4:05.45.
In the men's 110m hurdles,
Jalen Tyson places fifth with a time of 15.75 and Jaleel Fillmore placed ninth with a time of 16.62. The event was won by Brandon Gourdine of the University of South Carolina-Beaufort with a time of 14.71.
Fillmore placed fifth in the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 57.75. Stephen Varella of Morgan State won the event with a time of 54.03.
In the men's 4x400m relay, Paine (Fillmore, Tyson, Vandenburg, Marvin Sims, Richard Bell) placed fourth with 3:38.92. Claflin University won the event with a time of 3:13.55.
Tyson and Sims competed in the men's high jump for the Lions. Tyson placed third with a flight of 1.92m and Sims placed fourth with a flight of 1.76m. The event was won by Jocari Beattie of Florida A&M with a flight of 1.92m.
In the men's long jump, Sims took fourth place with a jump of 5.98m. Tyson placed sixth with a jump of 5.78m. Malik Franklin of Savannah State won the event with a jump of 7.05m.
Sims placed third in the men's triple jump with a flight of 12.92m. The event was won by Franklin of Savannah State with a flight of 14.26m.
In the men's javelin throw, Fillmore and Vandenburg competed for the Lions. Fillmore placed fourth with a throw of 35.29m and Vandenburg placed sixth with a throw of 33.46m.
Paine will return to action on March 2-3 in Albany, Ga. at the Alice Coachman Invitational hosted by Albany State.
