AUGUSTA, Ga. (Baseball) –The Paine College softball team will host Claflin University in their season opener and compete in its first Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) series this weekend. The Lady Lions will face Claflin in a single game on Friday, Feb. 26 at 3 p.m. The series will conclude on Saturday, Feb. 27 with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
Claflin enters the weekend with a 3-7 overall record. In their last outing, the Lady Panthers split a non-conference double-headers with Columbia College, winning Game One 4-0 and dropping Game Two 5-4.
Paine will have to contend with the Lady Panther's Jasmine Squirewell, who leads all starters with a .412 batting average. Jamelah Thomas is batting right at .400 while LaKaylin Lee is hitting .391 on the short season. Tiaria Norman leads the Claflin pitching staff with a 1.93 ERA.
The Lady Lions will continue their season on the road at the Shaw College Softball Challenge in Raleigh, N.C. on March 4-6, 2016.
