KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Paine College softball team closed out its season at the NCCAA Softball World Series Wednesday afternoon.
The Lady Lions lost a 12-2 decision to No. 7 Arlington Baptist, which advanced to the semifinals.
For the game,
Dara Ayovi accounted for two of the team's five hits while
Brionna King doubled and scored.
Emmy Segura crossed home plate while
Ka'niyah Robertson had one RBI.
Katherine Garcia and
Kamari Blackmon each had base hits.
Arlington Baptist scored a run in the second, one in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the sixth for a 6-0 lead.
PC got on the board in the bottom of the sixth frame. King led off the inning with a four-pitch walk. She moved to second when
Jakiyra Lemmon reached on an error. King hustled to third on an error. Moments later, King crossed home plate as did Segura to make it 6-2. The Lady Lions continued to threaten but a double play and a groundout ended the threat.
The visitors broke open the game in the seventh with six runs on five hits.
Paine College once again threatened in the seventh but a double play ended the inning.
In the circle,
Montana Cagle tossed 5.1 innings and allowed three earned runs.
Destiny Lawrence came in and worked the final 1.2 innings. She posted a strikeout while giving up nine runs.
