Box Score 2 AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Paine College baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader to Voorhees Wednesday afternoon by scores of 10-7 and 7-4.
The Lions are now 13-8 on the season.
Game one saw PC tie the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the first.
Denny Daza singled and after moving to third, trotted home on
Jeury Beato's sacrifice fly.
Trailing 2-1 in the second,
Mason Roundtree walked and moved to third on a wild pitch and a base hit by
Joseph Ramsey. Roundtree scored on an error by the catcher before Daza drove in Ramsey for a 3-2 advantage.
Voorhees regained the lead with eight runs through the fourth and fifth stanzas.
PC scored four runs over the next two frames, but the squad was unable to knot the game. Delgado walked and scored on a wild pitch in the fifth. A bases loaded walk to Delgado pushed Roundtree home in the sixth. Beato drove in
Camillo Martinez and Daza for the final two runs.
Daza led the way with two hits while Beato drove in three.
Game two saw the Lions take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first. Daza walked and later scored on a wild pitch. Delgado, who also drew a base on balls, later scored on a
Jhoel Melone sacrifice fly.
In the third, Delgado drew a one-out walk and scored on Beato's triple.
VU scored two runs in the fourth and fourth in the sixth. PC pushed across a run in the seventh when Ramsey crossed home on a wild pitch, but the team left two runners on base to end the game.
Beato drove in two runs while Delgado scored twice.
Emmanuel Martinez worked 4.1 innings and had five strikeouts.
Omar Yespes had a strikeout while Daza had three strikeouts in two frames.
The Lions return to action Wednesday, Apr. 16, when they host Benedict for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
