AUGUSTA, Ga. (Men's basketball)—The Paine College Lions are entering new territory this season as they light up the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference by claiming their ninth straight victory of season over Lane College, 87-71.
With the win, the Lions move to 10-3 overall and 6-0 in conference play. The Dragons drop to 5-7 overall, and 4-2 in league play.
Patrick Petty led Paine as he earned 20 points, seven assists, and three steals.
Alfonso Davis came in second with 16 points.
Arnis Libazs and
Arnold Okechukwu were the leading rebounders for the Lions with eight. Davis, Okechukwu, and
Takija Knight each accounted for two blocks for the night.
As a team, the Lions finished the night with 49 rebounds, 17 assists, 10 steals, and nine blocks. Paine was 47.7 percent from the field, 27.8 percent from the arc, and 64.5 percent from the free throw line.
The Dragons were led by Donald Stewart with 29 points followed by Terrance Bridgeman with 23 Stewart also finished with four steals. The leading rebounder for Lane was Bryant Hill with seven. Stewart came in second in rebounding with six. Hill also led the team in assists with three. Joseph Cooper accounted for the lone Dragon block of the night.
Lane finished the game with 29 rebounds, nine steals, and seven assists. As a team, the Dragons were 35.7 percent from the field, 23.5 percent from the arc, and 68 percent from the free throw line.
Paine returns to action on Saturday against Stillman College in the HEAL Complex at 7:30 p.m.
